The scientific name of this tree is called pimenta dioica.It is also known as Jamaica pepper,kurundu, new spice or bay rum tree.It is a small tropical tree which are grown mainly in Jamaica as exports comes mainly from there as it grows in the semi wild state.It has the smell of cinnamon,nutmeg and cloves and can be use in cookings such as meat and mushroom soup.It adds the aroma and the flavour of the food.My mom uses the leaves of this plants during cooking.Its requires moderate amount of water and prefers full shade.The aroma of the leaves can be smell by crushing them.This uuseful tree can also be extracted to gain a volatile oil called eugenol and methyleugenol.The oils can be used to treat cold and stomach ache and can be use for antiseptics and perfumes
